Papeete is the direct opposite of the expectations one has of Tahiti. Grey, drab, heavy traffic, industrialised harbour as a beachfront.
But, hop on a bus to Venus Point and get to see what Cook did and why Bligh's crew mutineed to return here. And who would have thought that my old acquaintance, Robert Louis Stevenson's father designed the lighthouse here!
