A nice daytrip from Amarillo is to the thermal baths upstream. There´s an early morning bus up and a late afternoon bus back. The baths are only warm in comparison to the ice cold river, but the steam caves are a fantastic sauna. There´s a good walking trail further up the valley. The pass over into Argentina is closed for a reason I didn´t understand, but probably because it goes to Argentina.
