Carál, Perú (central north coast)

10:54S   77:31W

Carál was only rediscovered in 1992 when archaeologists noticed that the seven hills in the Supe valley were made of non-local rock. Excavations are in progress, but have uncovered seven huge pyramids and a huge city that dates back to around 2500 BC (i.e. this was an impressive city at the same time of development as Mesopotamia). The museums and literature about pre-Inca cultures are about to undergo a massive change in mindset.
