The feature pieces of this park are the two volcanoes, Casablanca and Puyehuè. The latter is a two day climb from Articuro, which I didn´t do. Casablanca is a reasinably easy but steep 4 hour climb from Antillanca across craters and up some stunning formations. I was lucky enough to hitch a lift up the 20km road from the park entrance! The views from the top are incredible and the crater at the peak is ringed by bright red scoria and filled with permanent snow. In the photo below, the spike in the background is the basalt core of a volcano which has lost all its tuff and scoria to erosion.
The entrance to this part of the park is Aguas Caliente, so a bath in the 35 degree thermal pools alongside the 5 degree river is a handsome reward.
