Paso de los Liberatores, Chile - Argentina

This is one of the most spectacular passes across the Andes. It`s the main pass between Santiago and Mendoza. From Santiago you travel up the Portilla glacial morain through 30 switchbacks and then through a tunnel to the base of Christo Redento which lies on the border that my mother`s cousin did the Chilean boundary survey of in the 1960s. It is spectacular country with huge mountains, the highest outside the Himalayas, and includes Acincagua, 6970m.
